An interview with John Van Odenaren, Senior Advisor to the World Digital Library. John talks about what The World Digital Library is, why it was established (to promote international understanding and to bring culture to young people) and gives some examples of content. "It makes available on the internet, free of charge and in multilingual format (6 official UN languages), significant primary materials from countries and cultures around the world." Officially launched April 21, 2009, starting with a group of 30 which does not include Australia but includes Brazil, Mexico, Russia to cover languages. Content includes maps and sound recordings.
